The Barebones Grocery challenge is an invention thought up by Cath Armstrong. The idea is that you use what is in your pantry along with a very very basic shopping list of key ingredients to feed your family of four for a week. I logged onto Coles online to get a cost estimate of the grocery list, for my suburb it came in at $34.32 and that’s leaving off 1kg of potatoes. So I guess it isn’t possible to feed a family of four for $30 in this area. However, the concept is a fantastic way of reducing your grocery shop every once in a while. If you have a well stocked pantry at home, like I do, there’s plenty of items that you don’t use on a regular basis that you could use up in a challenge like this.
